In a perfect world Athletes and Models would be the only magazine around and I would be writing this post while sitting on a beach in the south pacific. The reality is we aren’t and truth be told we like it that way.
The magazine industry is without a doubt experiencing a period of change. Will print die? In my opinion, no! Not anytime soon anyways. But wait, the magazine shelf at my local store is shrinking in size – true, but… it will not disappear. I believe there will only be room for a limited amount of magazines per genre, kind of a survival of the fittest (pun intended) and I think we are already getting a look at the survivors of this shift in the way the media is consumed.
So, why did Athletes and Models opt for the digital route when we launched. Simple really, I learned a little bit from a couple of wise guys – no not the type we all loved in the movie Goodfellas, a couple of smart guys. By being the small guy on the block we have a few advantages and a few disadvantages which allow us to focus in on niche corners of the industry and do things a little more out of the box – for now.
Being released digitally also allows us to have deadlines closer to release date making some information the most up to date possible. As well we can make any edits and adjustments last minute.
What the digital revolution does do is saturate the market. Leaving readers to become more and more wary of the information being presented to them. So be sure the magazine you do make your magazine of choice offers accurate content by people who know what they’re talking about.
So, download our Summer issue being released on July 25th… and go pick up the latest print issue of your favourite magazines. Might I suggest Muscle Insider and Strong Magazine LOL… A little plug cuz the teams over at these magazines do a fantastic job of turning out great issues
